I am one of those annoying people...

I am not afraid to admit it.  You probably would hate to go to a movie with me.  If the movie is lame, I will voice my opinion.  I must say, I rarely do this at the movies, but I do it to videos.  I am a terrible movie talker.  I have it embedded into my mind that a movie is an inter-active experience.  That is why I love the show, Mystery Science Theater 3000.  I think it is my favorite TV show, of all time.  I could watch episodes over and over.  I never fails to give me a good belly laugh.

What is Mystery Science Theater 3000?  I am so glad you asked.  Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K, is a TV show that works on the premise that a guy is stranded in space.  He was launched into space by a couple of evil scientists, and they torment him by forcing him to watch lousy movies.  He has a couple of smart-mouthed robots, with him, that help him heckle the terrible movies.  And that is it.  We watch terrible movies with Mike and the bots.  They yell hilarious bon mots at the screen, and I laugh my tail off.

Now, I have always been a movie heckler.  If I didn't have this terrible affliction, I might not think this show is as funny as I do.  The show, itself, has an addictive effect.  The more you watch, the more you want to watch.  One show will reference another show.... It is a vicious cycle.  It is a hilarious vicious cycle.

My favorite movies to heckle are B movies from the seventies.  I love crappy sci-fi from the good ol' seventies.  I have noticed that alot of movies from the seventies play out like a porn without the interesting sex parts.  I will yell out at the TV, and my mother will say, "they can't hear you".  I will tell her, "I know they can't hear me, but I can hear me".  I have always been one to laugh at my own jokes.  I care enough not to do this in public, but sometimes I think funny things.  Do you ever do that?  Do you ever think something so funny that you have to laugh out loud?  I have done this, and it is very embarassing.  I hate trying to explain why I am laughing.  It is never funny to the outsider.  It is the ultimate "inside joke".  But, I digress.

MST3K allows me to vent my bad behavior.  I am usually so accommidating to people's needs, except when it comes to making fun of terrible movies.  I am such a jerk in that department.  For instance, my husband rented a movie starring Kirk Cameron.  He knows better than to watch this movie anywhere near me.

In my defense, I think I enjoy heckling movies more than most people enjoy just watching them.  If I can interact with the screen, I am in hog heaven.  I will save my addiction to Jeopardy! for another hub.

If you like to vent on bad movies, I highly recommend MST3K.  If you are a closet movie heckler, rent an episode on Netflix and watch it when no one is around.  Some of Mike and the bot's heckles are somewhat obscure, so the more learned you are in trivia, the better the experience will be.

Happy Heckling!

There is something so fun in watching bad movies, especially ones there were not deliberately made that way :)

Davina, you truly are a girl after my own heart! I absolutely love MST3K and can't get enough of it. I am a bad movie heckler as well. I felt like I was reading something I wrote myself here. I suppose great minds think alike as they say! :D

Ooh...I hate hecklers in theaters! But in the case of home viewing (a movie I've seen for the upteenth time) no. In fact, I'll challenge you with the lines, like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, The Goonies and many more. It's just fun to.

Maybe I'm a closet heckler and am just coming to terms with it :(

Oh, Davina--You should come to our house sometime...my husband and sons are the kings of hecklers, lol...

They've had a contest going on for YEARS about who can find the worst B movie to watch-we have suffered through so many bad ones, just so they can heckle--ever heard of "Santa's SLAY"? Not a misspelling, I promise, hahaha.

Mystery Science Theater is the BEST! We love to watch it when we get the chance...:D

Thanks for making our family feel not quite so strange anymore...lol

I absolutely love that show!!! I haven't seen it in ages. Thanks for reminding us fellow movie hecklers that there's a venue for people like us.

I remember seeing What Dreams May Come w/ Robin Williams and literally walking out it seemed so far fetched. A couple of years later I watched it and my jaw dropped; it was unbelievable! Confessions of a heckler!

MST3K was the best show on TV. The Sci Fi Channel and Comedy Central knew not what they had. I was a Misty from day 1.
