I am not offended by the sight of a naked woman. I notice that the nude female has a classic beauty that does not escape the attention of anyone. From the cradle to the grave, most people will have a preoccupation with the naked female form. There have been depictions of the nude woman in art since the advent of art.

Why does the nude woman have so much allure? That is an interesting question with many theorectical answers. In all honesty, a woman's body is the birthplace of all life... all human life anyway. So, on some anthropological level, we see the female body as a temple of life. I believe this is true. When we see a pair of breasts, we see our first food source. The nude female form is attractive to both genders, or it should be. I believe the female body should be exhaulted. Whether we want it to, or not, the nude woman weilds a lot of power. More power than can be exuded from the male counterpart.

Due to modern social mores, we are taught that we should be ashamed of the unclothed female body. When Janet Jackson flashed her breast on national television, there was a world wide scandal. The scandal was silly, to me, because there is no one on earth who has not seen, or come in contact with the human breast. The scandal also made me think of how much power that one breast had. it changed the world for a moment. It was just a tit, for God's sake. I was watching the Super Bowl when the "slip" happened and I barely noticed what happened... until it was replayed four million times. For a country to be so disgusted by the idea of a naked breast on national TV, we were so enchanted. We wanted to see more and more and more. We wanted to comment on it, and voice our outrage.

Pornography is a billion dollar industry. There is a market. If porn disgusts you, you probably would watch... just a little, until it got to be too much. Everyone takes that forbidden peek, every now and again. So again, I ask why? I ask why, this time, because now I want to know why the image of a woman's nude form is so taboo. Everyone woman has a naked body. Why should the idea of showing it, be so shameful?

Again, I believe the answer to this lies in the social climate of the times. It is a man's world.  For men to be able to concentrate on conquering and ruling this world, he cannot be distracted, or wonder if his woman is distracting other men. Some cultures go so far as to cover their women from head to toe. The truth of the matter is, there is still a beautiful naked woman under all that cloth, beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

In closing, I will ask you to think about how you feel about the sight of a naked woman. Does it make you feel uncomfortable? It shouldn't. If you feel a woman is being exploited does it make you feel ashamed of the woman? It shouldn't. The power of a nude woman should be governed by the woman. A woman's body is the birthplace of all humanity. It should be celebrated. It should not be looked at with disgust. If you are a woman, I ask you to look at your naked body sometime. See what it is that is most appealing. Then, if you have the inclination, show it to someone who might be interested in its appeal.

I have absolutely no problem with nude women! America is one of the few societies that has a problem with showing nudity openly. The disclosure of which is the cause of sex and hate crimes throughout: The mystery of nudity actually increases the desire for more nudity. Countries like France where nudity is not discriminated has an almost non-existent sex crimes. Go figure.

Alright, I went ahead and looked at my nakedness, it's alright but I definately would rather see a woman's nakedness. I have to completely agree with your sentiments in the hub. Beginning of creation and all.

Hello, great post. The nude female body is an alluring, awesome wonder. Here in the states we are not so bad as some other societies, ie Saudi Arabia, but it is taboo, to a point. The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are famous and have great popularity. Hoosiers is also very popular. So nudity may be taboo, but we love it, as long as it is female.

Good hub, Ive always been a bit confused with Americas TV censorship ,when clearly the stats for sexual crimes are high. Mind you having said that ,New Zealand in its bid to be seen as mature has gone the other way and thats a bit 'in yer face' too (yet they have no hooters restaurants) so I think generally western cultures tend to be a but hypocritical in standards. Nudity ,well I was fine til everything starting heading south ..gravity sucks ahahaha!

My issue with nudity comes from the societal double standard. It is fine for a man to parade around without a shirt on baring his breasts all over the place. It's illegal for a woman to do the same. The lesson that we pass on to future young women: be ashamed, for your body is so shameful, it is illegal for you to show it next to your shirtless male friend.

Good point, Caitlin. I don't think a woman's body should be shameful, at all. It is the passageway of all human life. I am against the exploitation of the female body, though.

Im not even in to women... but no, I am not offended at all! Women are amazing... beautiful and very spirtual. The reason people have been head over heels from the beginning of time is because this is really a womens world, not a mans...it was just jacked up by earlier men...thus the adam and eve story and the woman misleading the man.. YEA RIGHT!...women aren't that stupid...but males? Yes. LOL

I don't know, but the woman's naked body in your hub looks like it cd be yours. Anyhow it's very impressing and beautiful. A woman's body is beautiful and so is the male body. Congrats to the creator. I agree with you fully that a woman's body should not be exploited. Great Hub :)

A very nice hub.You gave the pros and unfortunately it will take time for society to come around.Changes go slow. Now you see more and more women breast feeding in public still descreetly covered.I personally love the curves and the many different shapes.I am very proud to say if I was a woman and it came the middle of the summer and all the guys took there shirts off.I would say what is good for you is good for me.

Thought provoking! I don't think women are made to feel ashamed of their bodies from men. I think women place more restrictions on each other than men do...

I probably wouldn't mind seeing nudity so much if I could look the same. But my breasts are unequal, and seeing so much perfection on TV, knowing that it's unattainable for me, just makes me feel worse about my own body. If I'm watching a film with my boyfriend and there are bare-chested women, I feel awful because he can see what women are 'meant' to look like... and instead all he gets are my substandard breasts.
