Plus Size Celebrities

 I am concerned and a little disheartened by the fact that there aren't more big lovely women celebrities out there.  When you hear a female singer on the radio, she may sound glorious, but you can bet that, nine times out of ten, she is tiny and looks like a porn star or model.  I am sure that there are a lot of big women who can belt out tunes like in the old days.  What happened to our Arethas?  Do all of our celebrities have to look like emaciated super-models? 
I am a big fan of Edele.  She is an English singer and she is fantastic.  I was even more enamoured with her when I saw her in person.  She is a real sized woman.  Her voice is like velvet and her lyrics are sublime.  I know it might seem a little shallow, but I like her more, now that I see she is larger than your average pop diva.  She is a beautiful woman.  Women like her, and Queen Latifah are a testament to the importance of talent and self esteem. 

America Ferrera is an actress who starred in the critically acclaimed motion picture, Real Women have Curves.  She portrayed a hispanic female who was comfortable in her own skin.  The movie highlighted the struggles a young woman has to go through when she is a little overweight.  I was a little overweight in my teens, and during my young adulthood, and my mother was really tough on me.  I wish I could have just felt as beautiful, and as young, as I was.  A few extra pounds always seemed like a thousand pound weight on my back.  I have noticed that, since her success, America Ferrera has slimmed down, considerably.  I am happy for her, if it was her decision.  I just hope she didn't feel pressured.  I can imagine her comparing herself to other celebs on the red carpet.  It couldn't have been easy to be one of the only ones wearing a size eight.  A size eight!  Most real women would love to be a size eight.

Out of all the celebrities out there, I would have to say that Queen Latifah is my idol.  I love her so much.  She is large, beautiful, and totally in control of herself.  She is a truly beautiful woman.  Whenever I feel bad about myself, or don't feel at my best, my husband always asks, "Would Queen Latifah be complaining about a few extra pounds, or would she just put on a beautiful dress and work it!"  The Queen always has a way of making me feel good about myself.  How many celebrities can do that? 

I can't close without mentioning Monique.  Monique is fabulous.  If you don't know who Monique is, you are really missing out.  She is a comedienne and she is hysterical.  She has no problem with her size and she believes that there are many more sexy plus sized women out there that need to come out of the closet and flaunt their big beauty. 

I will leave you with a question.  What is so disgusting about a few extra pounds?  I understand that being morbidly obese is a dangerous state, but what is so terrible about being a size eight, or ten, or even a twelve, for that matter?  Can a woman not be beautiful unless she can easily slide into a size two?  Most women do have curves and, I know from experience, most men love women who have curves.  So what's the problem?
